I am a huge fan of the Carabao cup for some reason or another. I think simply because I get to see the squad depth of different teams with regard to up coming games injuries and suspensions. Last night was no different I watched the various matches but what caught my eye the most was the return of Jack Wilshere.
After 493 days out of first team football it was quite nice to watch his impressive come back in Arsenals midfield. His first real action that got the crowd up on their feet was his closing down of a free kick from Doncaster. This was then followed by trademark lob into the final third to link up with Oliver Giroud took us all back to what a fantastic footballer Arsenal have at their disposal.
I wanted to leave him on to give him 90 minutes. Overall it was an ideal game for him to gain confidence and fitness,"
"For me now he's available to play..He needs 90 minutes at that intensity."
These were the words spoken by Arsene Wenger after the game .
Indeed it was good and ideal game for him, his passing was crisp, the link up play intricate. It was as if he has never been away. Now for me he should go into the weekend squad in order to build up on the performance last night. A fit Wilshere is better than Elneny any day. However we all know Arsene Wenger may just choose to play Mustafi in midfield instead of Jack.
The talented Midfielders contract is up at the end of the season and Arsenal would do well to renew it because I still belive he has a lot to offer for at lest another 5 years. He needs opportunities to play now but I suspect those wont come at arsenal as much. Wilshere might have to move to find regular playing time.
However as of last night he made a strong case to be a regular feature of the Arsenal team at least this season ( if he stays fit). His display showed growth as its not always easy to come back from long term injury and play like he did, it also showed desire and passion. This could be the ingredient Arsenal needs to kick start their season. Arsenal fans were excited to see him back and so was the rest of the world. Welcome back Jack!
